Starting Out with a Surprise
Have you any idea what it will be?!
If you are visiting me from the Ultimate Blog Challenge or the Ultra Blog Challenge, welcome! October is a very special month in the life of one dedicated to bringing awareness to vision loss.
But what I enjoy most is telling stories. I think I inherited the storytelling gene from my dad. Whether I am at a speaking engagement, teaching a class or in the midst of crafting a book, I attempt to connect one-on-one. I like people to visualize the scene–as if they, too, were there. I’m lighthearted and have learned not to take myself too seriously. With all the mishaps I find myself in, that would be deadly.
Other Distinguishing Characteristics
If you encounter me in a store, you might see me mistakenly heading toward the counter–but on the wrong side. Or you might see my head swivel nearly 360 degrees trying to locate the person who’s speaking to me. Others have learned to keep a distance when I unfold my white cane to avoid being decapitated by my stick. Another aspect that might stand out if you were to get to know me for any length of time — I’m always in a hurry but never on time! Maybe that’s why I became a runner!
Awareness & The Surprise
From October 1 – 5, my second memoir, Cane Confessions: The Lighter Side to Mobility is absolutely FREE! In honor of International Blindness Awareness Month, I wanted to make my book accessible to everyone. It’s a humorous read with a deeper purpose. Armchair travelers will enjoy it. It’s for anyone, not just vision-impaired.
