I “Cane” See You

Celebrating White Cane Safety Day

Amy is ready to put her cane skills to good out in the "School of Life"
Ready to put my cane skills to good out in the “School of Life”

35-Day Author Blog Challenge- Day 33, Ultra / Ultimate Blog Challenges

Yesterday I shared a guest post by Melissa Beahm, a hometown friend and part of a singer and songwriting duo that travels around the United States performing. The other part , the one who makes the “musical magic” on his keyboard synthesizer at their gigs, is Larry. The three of us collaborated on a song project and set its release for October 15, White Cane Safety Day.

The song is geared to children. My plan was to go into schools and educate them all about canes and bring awareness: vision-impaired and blind people are moving forward and achieving their goals like everyone else. It’s the same world, whether we see the world visually or non-visually. One is no less safe than the other.

These are the lyrics to the song Melissa and Larry put together for me to spread my message.

Presenting …

I USE MY CANE TO HELP ME THROUGH

By MELISSA and LARRY BEAHM
All Rights Reserved ©2015

CHORUS:
With your eyes, you may see me

But with my eyes I can’t see you.

I have some degree of blindness;

I use my cane to help me through!

When my cane is straight up and down,

From the red tip to the top;

It means I’m not going anywhere;

It means I’m at a stop!

CHORUS

When my cane is out in front of me,

When it’s sweeping side to side;

It means, “BEEP BEEP,” I’m comin’ through,

So please, do step aside!

CHORUS

I use my cane to help me through!

With Heartfelt Gratitude to  Melissa Beahm and Larry Beahm for seeing through my vision to make this song a reality. Countless hours of work later, it’s done!

    Nick,
    You HAVE to come back when I’ve uploaded the song! You, the great, impressive music reviewer! It’s not your typical kind of music but I can’t wait to hear what you think about it! I was so over the moon when I heard it earlier today!
    My website technician will be uploading it shortly so check back later today!

    I’d love to hear it too, Amy. What a great idea to present the concept this way to children.

    I’ve never heard of white cane safety day, but I’m glad it’s around. We have a friend who is blind, and we need to watch out and care for such people. Thanks for this info. 🙂

    Hi Kerry,
    Thank you! That was the singer, Melissa’s, idea and a surprise in the final rendition. It’s so perfect! I love her voice. 🙂
    Congrats on not one, but TWO interviews with the radio show! I wasn’t home to listen to it yesterday (sorry) but I’ll listen to the playback!

    Stacie,
    I apologize for taking time to answer your very thoughtful comment.
    Thank you for the vote of confidence. As soon as I receive my renewed school clearances, I will take it into the schools.
    I’m excited! Thank you again and please stop back.
