Jesus the Other Sun

Guiding me along the lighted path…

* * *

For those of you who are new to my blog, I have a progressive genetic vision disorder called Retinitis Pigment0sa (RP). I blog about faith, travel and what God is teaching me through my vision “fallies” (pun intended) each day. Sometimes I look back on my life and see how God has responded to a  need in a specific instance. This is one of those times.

The mail carrier turned around and came back to the house to deliver the package.

“I’ve called Hospice for Ben,” Maudi’s choked voice halted over the telephone.

In the short silence that followed, her words sank in. Ben, my former colleague from San Antonio, TX, was dying of Melanoma. Lord, use me to help.

That afternoon, I headed to a store to find teaching materials to take back to my students in the United Arab Emirates, where I currently lived.  As I browsed in the Texan store, a child’s illustrated poster of the 23rd Psalm jumped out at me. I remembered Ben. God, what if it scares him? I know nothing about his faith.

So, I carried it with me on the plane to the Emirates. Immediately after I returned, I felt an urgent need to send it to Ben. How can I ever find a mailing tube in this country? After a long search, I spied a miracle. “There’s one under that clerk’s desk!” Surprised at my enthusiasm, the clerk gave it to me. I covered the tube in yellow contact paper and posted my gift.

A week or so later in the US, Maudi sensed the end was near, and prayed for Ben, who had looked troubled for days.  She needed to know he was a believer. “Please God, send me some confirmation.”

The doorbell rang and the mail carrier held out a yellow poster tube. “Sorry, I forgot to deliver this earlier.”

Together they read the poster. Ben relaxed and a peaceful look stole over him. Maudi realized she had received her confirmation. Moments later, Ben passed away still gazing at the poster.

"We are like sheep filled with want..."

God links our lives together in perfect timing. We are lambs filled with want; He soothes our souls.

I had pleaded to be used, Maudi longed for final confirmation and Ben sought peace.

I had pleaded to be used, Maudi longed for final confirmation and Ben sought peace. It all came together in one special delivery parcel.

Prayer: Lord, help me be aware of opportunities to be useful to Your kingdom.

    So glad you liked it, Kristin. It would be great if Ben truly was comforted as we believe him to have been. =)
