Doing a New Thing!
Goals for 2016

stream in the desert

19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.
–Isaiah 43:19, NIV

In my niece’s words, 2015 was full of painful memories. But what an encouraging scripture she shared last night!  She said she wanted to move forward in hope.  I thought it was so appropriate. God is doing a new thing in my life, too, making streams in my wasteland.

Marketing Plan

This year, I’ll also be writing a business plan and receive solid marketing input from an expert.

Book Writing Goals

I plan to finish my newest book, Cane Confessions: The Lighter Side to Mobility by mid-February. I would also like to make this an audio book.

On its heels will be another book, Second Sight, When Physical Vision  Blurs, God Focuses Spiritual Vision.

Starting in January, I need to schedule in time to write a book about my father, Don Bovaird: The Tree Man (no official title as of yet). It’s the 10 year anniversary of his death. It’s so time!  My ultimate deadline is June 30.

Collaboration with a colleague – by October, I’d like to have a children’s book completed to use as an educational tool with My Cane Will See Me Through

I’d also like to have a minimum of 10 paid articles picked up by magazines and publications.

I would like to expand my educational and speaking platform. That means I would like to have more than 25 speaking engagements this year. I also want to improve my speaking skills and have a reliable speaking system.

Community Outreach

As new secretary of the Lions Club, I hope to carry out my responsibilities effectively. Also, I want to fulfill support club initiatives. Finally, I want to produce a video of my children’s song to further merge the Lions Club goals with my educational goals.

Peer Advisor

Meanwhile, I’ve also continued on with responsibilities as peer advisor at VisionAware, a pro-active outreach website providing resources in coping successfully with vision loss.

See I am doing a new thing! Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in a wasteland.

God plans to do new things for each of us. If we let Him into our lives, He will show us what they are. How do we claim that which “springs up”? I pray that my goals are God-given. The key is stepping into His plan and making His will, ours. He will bring it to pass, and that’s what I’m trusting.

What is your overriding goals for this year? Do you have a word or scripture to motivate you?

    Hi Amy,

Happy New Year. Wishing you the best in all your new endeavors and letting go of the past while also cherishing those things that you want to remember.

Live simple, Love deeply, Laugh heartily.

    Hi Dave,
I can certainly relate to some of your loss, especially those losses closet to you. Aside from my sister, I lost Buddy a year ago Thanksgiving. I still miss him deeply. We are walking a similar journey. Wishing you exactly the same best wishes and a great writing year!
I’m so glad you’re back among friends! And so glad for me, you are my critique partner! 🙂

    Hi Amy,
    What great goals you have!
I’m not as good at setting goals.
I’d like to write a book about my walking adventures and I’d like to draw and paint more and complete my 366 day photography project.
I miss my dad, too. We lost him three and a half years ago.
When I do get my book finished, I will dedicate it to him.
    Happy New Year, Amy!

    Hi Alice,
So glad to be back blogging. I cut down because of my writing schedule but decided to participate in this first challenge! Happy to see you back with the challenge, too! Thank you for your kind words. Will definitely take a few minutes to read your post! I love walking!

Amy, Happy New Year. What an inspirational post. I send up a prayer for you to live your purpose and submit to God’s will in your life. While I do set goals for the year I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I have however created my 2016 Three Word Mantra (Submit, Freedom, Consistent).

    Praying your success,

Totally awe inspired by your goals! I’m taking more time and working slowly on mine, but a marketing plan is in there for me as well, as well as finishing my book and an ebook! thanks for the inspiration!

Happy New Year to you and yours! (Visiting from the UBC Challenge group on FB.)

Instead of ‘new year’s resolutions’ I do something around my birthday that I call a bucket list. The number of things on the list is the same as the age I will be on my next birthday.

Many of my items this year centered on increasing and exercising my faith, as well as working on blogging/writing and family.

Amy, your goals will take a lot of work but I know you can do them. You are an inspiration for my determination; moving forward from the pain of your 2015 to educate and influence even more people. I wish you the greatest of success, and wish you a happy and productive 2016.

Happy New Year, wow, you sound like you have it all figured out!!! Good luck on meeting every single one of your goals! And what a great passage from the scriptures, thanks for sharing it with us!!!

    Hi Kim,
I really like your mantra. Consistent is really what I’m aiming for too.
So nice to meet you! Good luck when you set your goals!

    Hi Gina,
So glad to touch base with another writer. Gina!
Sometimes it pays to go slowly and really think them out.
I have been planning mine since December so I was all ready to begin this year!
Take care and happy New Year!

    Hi LuAnn,
I totally get the bucket list! And what a cool idea to plan for as many things as the age of your birthday.
Some of my colleagues and I have written a combined article (I guess we’re still writing it) about our bucket list this year! You sound like you’ve chosen terrific themes for this year’s bucket list!

  • January 2, 2016 at 12:31 am

Thank you so much, Anna! Happy New Year!

  • January 2, 2016 at 12:34 am

Thank you, Alana. They will. I really need to get my dad’s book done. It is weighing heavily on me. A lot of the reason I’m writing Dad’s book is because he had such a positive influence in our community. I don’t want them to forget him. Plus, he was unique! 🙂 My other books take so much time to edit!! But I am determined! 🙂
So glad to be back to blogging after cutting down to once a week.
    Happy New Year!

    Hi Jennifer!
You are welcome. Thank you for taking time to comment and helping me get my year off to a good start!

  • January 2, 2016 at 2:04 am

Amy, you’re singing verses to my song. My whole life has been about God doing a new thing, then another, then another. Last year was full of challenges, weird and huge ones. But God has been right there, advising me and my husband as we go. Thanks for writing exactly what you did today. And God bless!

  • January 2, 2016 at 2:15 am

That’s so encouraging to encounter someone else who finds that verse so special! I love blogging because I open these kind of delightful messages and I feel united! How cool is that! Like an affirmation! A great way to start the new year!

Amy, Eph. 1:2, “Grace and peace to you…”

So now we’re overlapping in both the UBC and the Ultra BC. There are no accidents. I am writing from my all-audiences blog this month, so the Godly references are sometimes oblique, but they are embedded. Thanks again for writing exactly as you have. God is doing a new thing, even this evening! Blessings to you!

Commendable goals, my friend. Loved the scripture too. My writing goals are much smaller than yours, even though my passion flames as bright as yours. I will work in order without the pressure of deadlines. Growing my blog with some free downloads and an E-book are at the top of my list, alongside writing a monthly newsletter for our ministry. After that I will work on starting a nonfiction book proprosal and going for finishing a rough draft of my book on miracles. But, with a new grandbaby, so many responsibilities, all I can do is strive and what God wants done, He will be faithful to complete.

  • January 2, 2016 at 12:06 pm

I love your goals, they are practical and very inspirational too.

I have one main goal to spend more time with my husband and beautiful dog and this one goal drives all my other goals too. I have big targets for my business that will help me to free up time to be with them, but I also have a big personal goal too.

I want to walk some of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. I have developed a lot of pain in my ankles in recent years due to an old injury. However I just feel the need to do something that will challenge me to overcome the negative aspects that doing the walk will help me with.

Good luck in 2016 with your goals and I wish you every success.

  • January 2, 2016 at 1:18 pm

You’re absolutely right! Exciting! And by the way, I do remember you from last year. 🙂
I look forward to reading your posts.

  • January 2, 2016 at 1:25 pm

Guess what? Your post is the one I received the MOST comments on last year!!! There were 34 comments!Congratulations! I am trying to figure out which stats will show me the most viewed post.
Your goals sound great! I remember your schedule and it’s jam-packed.
As to mine, I really feel psyched. I do always have big goals, and I have to figure a way to break down my dad’s book in manageable chunks to actually complete it. But the timing is right. It’s the tenth anniversary of his death. I’ve been procrastinating on his book for far too long. It’s weighing heavily on me.
I think once the holidays are past, we are due for a phone conversation!
    Love you! xx

  • January 2, 2016 at 1:31 pm

    Thank you, Susan!
Spending more time with your husband and dog are excellent goals!
I so look forward to reading more of your posts and hone my writing business.
I have heard much about El Camino de Santiago in Spain. I have a friend I can put you in touch with who has walked it a couple of times. He’s British but lives in France. He is a painter and sometimes ESL teacher. He is working on a book of paintings to illustrate his first walk.

    Hi Amy,

Happy New Year with best wishes for health, wealth, peace, love and joy!
I had a busy year and hope this new one is going to be better from all points of view for me and all my dear friends near and far. Most of them, like you, are quite faraway, but you are always in my prayers and always sending my best with every meditation and thought during the day.
    Love and hugs,

  • January 2, 2016 at 8:28 pm

So wonderful to hear from you Smaranda!
Guess what? Mobility Matters will be coming out in audio in a few weeks! I can’t wait for you to hear it! I know you’ll love it! The narrator really brings my story to life. I am hard at work on my other books. I miss you. HOpe you are happy in your house and with your dogs and teaching. It seems so long ago that we were together in the UAE. So grateful that we are in touch and can update each other. xx
Happy New Year! May 2016 be a good one.

  • January 4, 2016 at 10:18 pm

Congrats on this plan you’ve devised for 2016. I try to form a plan, hoping I might get more accomplished that way, but for some reason I can’t seem to stick to one. Life always seems to have other plans.
Good for you for writing all these books. Not easy at all, but you’re getting it done.
    Happy New Year.

    Hi Kerry,
Your writing will take flight when it’s ready. I have another friend who is vision-impaired and we were thinking of writing a book together. That hasn’t happened yet. But she has taken off with articles every month! It happened in its own time.
Thank you so much for your support! These books mean a lot to me so I hope to get them out on time. 🙂 We’ll see if that happens.
Have a great day, Kerry. I love having you as part of my community.
